Is it possible to have a hair transplant on long hair?
Many men with male pattern baldness or Androgenetic Alopecia have relatively long hair and wonder if it needs to be shaved or cut short in order for them to have a hair transplant. The skilled surgical team at HRBR hair clinic can perform a hair transplant on clients with long hair, where the hair in the donor area at the back and the sides of the head is longer than 2cm – 3cm in length.
Benefits of hair transplant on long hair
The benefit to the client is that they will get an immediate idea of what the eventual look will be once the long hair transplant is complete. This effect will only be temporary. As with all hair transplants the donor hair will fall out about a month after surgery before the transplanted follicle produces new hair growth.
Important Information
- It is important to note that the transplanted hair will be fully embedded 14 days after surgery.
- The transplanted hair will begin to fall out, usually 2 to 4 weeks after the surgery. Patients start to see the new hair grow at 3 to 4 months after the transplant surgery, this hair will be very fine and minute at first.
- 6 months after surgery 70% the hair will have appeared, however they won’t be fully grown, it will take up to 18 months for a full growth to occur.
