Beard & Moustache Transplants

Some individuals experience beard or moustache hair loss due to injury, while others may have naturally sparse growth. Beard and moustache hair transplant surgery offers a solution by transplanting hair, typically taken from the donor area at the back and sides of the scalp, to the beard or moustache area.

In cases where scalp donor hair is limited—often due to scarring or prior over-harvesting—beard hair can be used to add density to thinning areas on the scalp. However, beard hair is not the primary choice for scalp transplants due to its different texture, which can be noticeable if used in large quantities or in visible areas. The team at HRBR carefully designs each transplant to ensure a natural blend. Beard hair is generally not used along the frontal hairline, where its texture would be more noticeable.

Interestingly, HRBR has observed that when transplanted, scalp and beard hair can start to resemble the characteristics of the surrounding hair in that area, contributing to a more natural look. For some patients with scalp hair loss, growing out beard or moustache hair can help balance their appearance.

With a limited donor hair supply, prioritisation is essential, especially for patients considering both facial and scalp transplants. At HRBR, we frequently see young patients who have undergone large-scale beard transplants, usually in Turkey, sometimes using much of their available donor hair. This can limit future options for addressing scalp hair loss.
