Dear Maurice,
Thank you so very much for helping me realise how bad my hair situation was. Our conversation has been an emotional moment for me, which resurrected a feeling of grief and loss that I had buried deep. But your empathy and positive, friendly attitude tremendously helped me overcome it.
On my way home, I couldn’t help but to think about your suggestion to shave my head. I was feeling a mixture of excitement and fear which didn’t take long for me to act upon. The next day, I shaved my head.
Although I wasn’t exactly impressed at first, the reaction from my wife, family and friends have been almost overwhelmingly positive. Even at work, people felt confident enough to bring it up with humour which says a lot. Never in my life would I have expected that. The complete opposite! So I started shaving my head every day, and started enjoying it.
I have since tried to grow my hair back. But it didn’t last long. After a couple days, I shaved my head again. I couldn’t resist it.
I have now accepted not having hair. I like the man in the mirror.
I’m now in the process of accepting my hair loss. My wife still loves me, and thinks I look beautiful. My daughters as well. I have simply decided to stop looking for a solution, as there are simply no more problems to be solved.
This transformative experience, I owe it to you. Thanks to your intervention, I have stopped living in denial. I am accepting myself and I’m forever grateful to you.
I really wanted to convey my appreciation towards you. You may not have done any procedure to my scalp, but you reached deep under it. You have helped me tremendously, in a fundamental, transformative way. I will never forget it.
